Happy Halloween!

Trick or treat, today is Halloween! Some people spend a fortune on decorations, but not me. As usual I like to recycle whatever I have lying around.

For these adorable little pumpkins, I’ve used an old orange T-shirt, orange cotton thread, green ribbon, polyester filling and a button.

The pumpkin shape buttons, that I bought on sale a couple of years ago, really are the finishing touch.

With some leftover cotton and a crochet hook you can make these funny skulls in whatever colour you like.

I’ve used this free pattern but added an extra round of single crochet stitches for firmness of the lower part of the skull.

Happy Halloween crafting!

Time to recycle!

Re-using old clothes is one of my favorite things to do. Probably because I have a hard time throwing away stuff. Now, I had this black vest hanging in my closet for quite some time.

I’d bought it at a thrift shop a decade ago and hardly ever wore it, because I never really knew when to wear it. Too cold for winter, too hot for summer and just feeling awkward with it in spring and autumn. Never threw it away though, thinking ‘one day I might re-use the two way zipper’.

I also had this cute dress that my mom made me when I was like ten or so (exhibit #1: I REALLY have a hard time throwing stuff away!).

Because I loved the fabric so much, I’d passed the dress on to my daughters. But now they’ve also grown out of it.
Then I had a little lightbulb moment: why not combine the two!

So I’ve cut two sleeves from the dress, attached knit cuffs and sewn the sleeves into the vest. What do you think of my ‘new’ jacket?
